Moderator, Dr Marcus Marcet, Licentiate Society President, was joined by panellist, Dr Bernard Murphy, Partner at Howse Williams Solicitors.
Bernard is a dual qualified medical doctor and solicitor and has been a partner in the medicolegal team of Howse Williams since 2012. Bernard advises healthcare professionals in a wide range of medicolegal issues, including clinical negligence claims and professional disciplinary proceedings before the Medical Council, Dental Council and Physiotherapists Board.
This event aimed to enhance medical practitioners' knowledge of common medicolegal situations and raise their awareness so that doctors can more safely approach such interactions with patients.
Upon completion of the activity, participants were better understand and improved their confidence in navigating the following:
1) How to say “sorry”.
2) Communicating with the family and patient confidentiality.
3) Dealing with complaints.
Doctors face certain medicolegal situations commonly.
