Due to the cancelled Hong Kong Medical Licensing Examination (HKMLE), a number of non-locally trained doctors have been shut out from helping patients in Hong Kong. Several of the doctors moved to Hong Kong to sit for the exam over 1 year ago. The HKMLE was cancelled during the previous peak in March of the pandemic. Now these dedicated doctors bide their time outside of the healthcare setting by studying in libraries and cafes around the city.
Due to strong interest from non-local graduates, the Society expanded its original 2 partners to 3 charities on 6th August 2020. The LMCHK Society sourced non-local medical graduates from among its members and selected volunteers to help at 3 health-related registered charities in Hong Kong.
MAP participants assist with services that do not require a registered medical practitioner. The volunteers commit to helping several hours per week. The MAP experience, designed to be examinee friendly, runs until the end of the year with planned weeks off at the time of their exams.
“While the work is for those not yet registered in Hong Kong, the volunteers’ medical knowledge will be a benefit for the charities, “ said Dr. Marcus Marcet, President of the LMCHK Society. Participants will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the LMCHK Society upon successful completion of their MAP journey. The MAP participants will also get an early start learning about Hong Kong’s healthcare and gain valuable experience in the process.
The application window for the Fall 2020 cohort closed as of 31st July 2020, 6:00 pm HKT.
